The protection circuit has an electrical load with a positive current supply connection (P, M) that is attached between a positive pole (V+) and negative pole (V-) of a battery (B). A MOSFET e.g. N-channel MOSFET, is provided between the negative pole (V-) of the battery and the current supply connection of the load. A gate connection (G) of the MOSFET is subjected with a positive voltage (Ein/On) lying near zero, such that the MOSFET is closed and holds an alternating current component of the load by an intrinsic diode.
