摘要 An exemplary embodiment of the present invention provides a verticalla-aligned liquid crystal display (10) including a first insulation substrate (110). A pixel electrode (191) is disposed on the first insulation substrate. A first alignment layer (11) is disposed on the pixel electrode. A second insulation substrate (210) faces the first insulation substrate. A common electrode (270) is disposed on a surface of the second insulation substrate, which surface of the second insulation substrate faces the first insulation substrate (110). A second alignment layer (21) is disposed on a surface of the common electrode, which surface of the common electrode faces the first insulation substrate (110). A liquid crystal layer (3) is disposed between the first alignment layer and the second alignment layerS (11, 21). The liquid crystal layer (3) includes liquid crystal molecules (31). Liquid crystal molecules(31) adjacent to at least one of the first alignment layer (11) and the second alignment layer (21) have a pre-tilt angle. The first alignment layer (11) and the second alignment layer (21) consist of a polymer, preferably polyimide; the polymer of at least one of the alignment layers (11, 21) has side chains comprising functional groups capable of attracting ion impurities included in the liquid crystal layer (3), thereby mitigating a deterioration of display quality due to charge accumulation caused by the ions. The polymer may additionally comprise side chains including photo-reactive groups such as benzophenone groups, for accurately controlling the pre-tilt angle.
