IMAGE ABSTRACTION SYSTEM

An image abstraction engine is provided to characterize scenes like typically found in an urban setting. Specifically buildings and manmade structures have certain characteristic properties that may be abstracted and compressed in a manner that takes advantage of those characteristic properties. This allows for a more compact and computationally efficient abstraction and recognition.

an image rectification unit having an input for receiving an input image and an output of a fronto-parallel rendition of a segment of said input image; an extraction unit responsive to an output of said image rectification unit where an output of said extraction unit is the characterization of one or more image parameters and where said one or more image parameters are related to significant features present in an urban scene.
