1. A mounting device for releasably attaching a light carrier to a surgical instrument, which light carrier includes a light projecting portion, said mounting device comprising:
an upper frame portion for supporting and exposing the light projecting portion of the light carrier; and a retaining clip portion attached to said upper frame portion and configured for engaging a surgical instrument to secure the light carrier releasably to the surgical instrument with the light projecting portion of the light carrier exposed by said upper frame portion, whereby light transmitted through the light carrier is projected by the light projecting portion to illuminate a surgical or medical procedure involving the surgical instrument.
