<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight of a lower manufacturing cost which can be easily assembled. <P>SOLUTION: The backlight assembly to illuminate a liquid crystal panel includes a frame having a frame body incorporating a plurality of contact pads and a light guide plate mounted on the frame, and has one or more light-emitting devices connected to the above contact pads, with each light-emitting device having an irradiation face opposing to the first face of the light guide plate.
