Gasbag module (10) has airbag (14), gas generator (18), discharge openings (20), gas generator carrier (16) and module cover (12). The gas generator carrier has side wall (30) and base, at which gas generator is fastened. The section of gasbag package lies laterally at the gas generator, in the escaping direction, behind airbag protection device. In the assembled but yet not activated gas bag module, base as well as the side wall define a receiving space (24) for gas bag folded in gas bag package. The gas generator carrier has a one-piece gasbag protection device in between the gas generator and the folded gasbag package, in which the gasbag package has discharge openings.
