<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable printer and a variable printing system which can carry out variable printing accompanying Japanese hyphenation. <P>SOLUTION: When the variable printer 1 receives variable data including Japanese hyphenation information from a PC 2, a variable data processing part 10 analyzes the variable data, acquires used encoding, acquires the Japanese hyphenation information designated by the encoding, embeds the variable data in a form, and carries out Japanese hyphenation on the basis of the Japanese hyphenation information.
