Adaptation of DRX cycle based on knowledge of scheduling information and system load

Methods and arrangements for enabling reduced battery consumption in a mobile terminal. A method involves determining a scheduling priority associated with the mobile terminal and/or a load level in a cell associated with the mobile terminal. The method further involves determining whether a criterion is fulfilled based on the determined scheduling priority and/or load level, where the criterion is associated with an anticipated waiting time until being scheduled. If the criterion is fulfilled the DRX settings of the mobile terminal are adjusted, such that said settings are in accordance with the anticipated waiting time associated with the criterion. Thereby, reduced battery consumption in the mobile terminal is enabled.

1. A method, in a network node in a wireless communication system, for enabling reduced battery consumption in a first mobile terminal, the first mobile terminal being one of a plurality of mobile terminals in a cell of the wireless communication system, the method comprising:
determining a scheduling priority associated with the first mobile terminal or a load level in the cell associated with the first mobile terminal, or both; determining whether a criterion is fulfilled based on the determined scheduling priority or load level, or both, where the criterion is associated with an anticipated waiting time until being scheduled; and if the criterion is fulfilled: adjusting the DRX settings of the first mobile terminal, such that said settings are in accordance with the anticipated waiting time associated with the criterion, thus enabling reduced battery consumption in the first mobile terminal, and wherein said settings are different from DRX settings applied to at least a second mobile terminal in the cell.
