PURPOSE: A character abacus is provided to prevent upper/lower beads having a shape of characters from rotating in shafts. CONSTITUTION: A plurality of shafts(30) are arranged in a frame(10). One upper bead(21) and four lower beads(22) are stringed to each shaft. A crossbar(40) dividing an upper and lower section of an abacus is installed in the frame. A cross section of the shafts has a polygonal shape. Shaft insertion holes formed in the upper/lower beads have the shape matched with the shape of the cross section of the shaft.
