PURPOSE: A method of a quick change among a plurality of a text modes and a portable terminal for the same by using keys for text input are provided to quickly convert a plurality of character modes. CONSTITUTION: A controller(130) indicates characters inputted by a user in a text input mode on a display(150). The controller detects the character coping with characters with a conversion key combination. The controller enters into the character mode corresponding to the detected change over key. The controller deletes characters corresponding to the change over key. A memory(120) stores the mapping relation of the change over key matching coping with a plurality of character modes.
