Method for ascertaining a product of the heat capacity and the density (Cp ∙ ρ) of a gas or gas mixture (2) or of a value derived therefrom with the aid of a thermal sensor (1), in particular a thermal flow sensor, said method involving the following steps: - ascertaining the heat conductivity (λ) of the gas or gas mixture (2); - ascertaining a flow rate (Q) of the gas or gas mixture (2) on the basis of the ascertained heat conductivity (λ); - ascertaining the product of the heat capacity and the density (Cp ∙ ρ) of the gas or gas mixture (2) or of a value derived therefrom on the basis of the ascertained heat conductivity (λ) and the ascertained flow rate (Q).
