PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device that can be made thin.SOLUTION: The display device includes: a first substrate that has a first insulating substrate and a strip-like first electrode extending in a first direction on the first insulating substrate; a second substrate that has a second insulating substrate opposing to the first substrate and having an outer surface functioning as a detection surface, and a plurality of conductive wiring lines extending in a second direction intersecting the first direction, arranged in the first direction at a substantially equal pitch on the second insulating substrate, and selectively transmitting a desired polarized light component in incident light; a light modulating layer that is disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate; a second electrode that is disposed between the first insulating substrate and the second insulating substrate and cooperates with the first electrode to optically change the light modulating layer; and a detection circuit that detects changes in an electric capacitance between the first electrode and the conductive wiring line. |
