A gripping bell (01) and a method for grasping the top of articles (02) are described. The gripping bell (01) is equipped with: - a main body (03) having a receiving opening (04) for at least a top part, intended as contact portion (05), of the lateral surface of an article (02), a geometrical axis (07) extending normally to a surface (06) defined by the receiving opening (04), and a bearing surface which extends parallel to the surface (06) defined by the receiving opening (04), is delimited by the receiving opening (04) towards the geometrical axis (07) and has at least two bearing-surface parts (08) that are arranged in a manner distributed evenly around the geometrical axis (07), - at least one actuating element (09) that is guided in the main body (03) in a manner parallel to the geometrical axis (07) and is arranged so as to be moveable between a holding position and a releasing position, and - at least one gripping tongue (10) per bearing-surface part (08), which, at its end remote from the receiving opening (04), is movable in an articulated manner about a pivot axis (11) that extends parallel to the surface (06) defined by the receiving opening (04) and orthogonally to the geometrical axis (07), in a manner connected to at least one actuating element (09), and, at its end remote from the receiving opening (04), is movable parallel to the geometrical axis (07), together with the at least one actuating element (09), and, with its remaining, free end facing the receiving opening (04) and limited only by the bearing-surface part (08), is movable freely about the pivot axis (11). In the holding position of the actuating element (09), each gripping tongue (10) initially projects through the bearing-surface part (08) assigned thereto in a pivoting direction into the receiving opening (04) so as to be pivotable in a limited manner about its pivot axis (11). In the releasing position of the actuating element (09), the free end of each gripping tongue (10) is retracted onto the bearing-surface part (08). |
