PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To implement color display at a high degree of saturation even if a color reproduction area realized by a display is not matched with a color reproduction area determined by a specification.SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus includes: a signal input section which converts an input signal in a first color gamut indicating image data into a linear first image signal; a color gamut conversion section which converts the first image signal into a second image signal in a second color gamut narrower than the first color gamut for display on an image output device capable of displaying the second color gamut; a blend coefficient setting section for setting a blend coefficient that specifies a ratio of combination of the first image signal and the second image signal on the basis of saturation obtained from the input signal; and a color combination section for generating a synthetic image signal by combining the first image signal and the second image signal in the ratio corresponding to the set blend coefficient.
