<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of securing the safety of the apparatus main body while improving handleability with a low-cost configuration. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: an image forming section 1 that forms an image on a sheet material; a document reading section 2 that can be opened or closed relative to the image forming section 2; and a document pressing section 31 that can be opened or closed in the same direction as the opening/closing direction of the document reading section 2 and presses the document against the reading face 37 of the document reading section2.
