PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve insertion properties of an oil level gauge by enhancing flexural rigidity close to the grip section of a gauge section. SOLUTION: The oil level gauge has: a slender, planar gauge section 7 inserted into a guide pipe in an oil tank; and a grip section 9 formed at one end of the gauge section 7. In the oil level gauge, an assist plate 8 shorter than the gauge section 7 is overlapped to the side of the grip section 9 in the gauge section 7, and the tip of the assist plate 8 is stuck to the gauge section 7. Then, the longitudinal length of the assist plate 8 is preferably 30-70% of the length of the gauge section 7. Also, the gauge section 7 and the assist plate 8 may be formed by twisting over the entire length. By overlapping the assist plate 8 to the gauge section 7 for sticking, the flexural rigidity of the gauge section 7 at the side of the grip section 9 increases as compared with the gauge section 7 alone, thus easily inserting into a pipe for inserting the oil level gauge.
