PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control a light source by reducing the number of I/O terminals of an IC or a driver IC for light source driving.SOLUTION: An image reading device includes: image reading means having a light source for irradiating an original with light and an image reading part for generating analog image data; control means having a command generation part for outputting a light source control signal and an image processing part; signal conversion means having a first conversion part for converting the light source control signal to be output by the command generation part into a light source driving signal for driving the light source of the image reading part and a second conversion part for converting the analog image data to be output by the image reading part into digital image data; a communication line for enabling the control means and the signal conversion means to communicate with each other; and switching means for switching the communication direction of the communication line. The image reading device is configured to transfer the light source control signal from the control means via the communication line to the signal conversion means in a transfer section of a non-effective pixel which does not correspond to the original, and to transfer the digital image data from the signal means via the communication line to the control means in a transfer section of an effective pixel.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
