<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently generate a thumbnail picture while suppressing the cost. <P>SOLUTION: A client terminal accesses a composite machine and requests the composite machine to transmit a thumbnail picture of a concerned page (step S1). When the client terminal receives the thumbnail picture (step S2), the client terminal stores the picture (step S5), and displays the picture on its display apparatus (step S6).
