An application management system of an IP(Internet Protocol) set-top box and a method therefor are provided to connect the IP set-top box to a control server and allow the control server to manage version information of an application of the IP set-top box by using an Internet web service. A data transmitting and receiving unit(210) transmits and receives a registration data packet with a control server. A configuring unit(220) configures the registration data packet, and transmits the registration data packet to the control server through the data transmitting and receiving unit(210). An installing unit(230) receives and installs an application in an IP set-top box(200) according to an application list received from the control server. When the IP set-top box(200) has an initialized value, the installing unit(230) changes the initialized value of the IP set-top box(200) to an installed value of the application installed in the IP set-top box(200). The configured registration data packet includes information used in that an application server judges whether the application of the IP set-top box(200) is initialized.
