PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a walking-type tiller rationalized with a position on which engine weight is applied, so as to prevent its traction force from declining as a result of a tine shaft's going up when a working implement is attached to the tiller. SOLUTION: The walking-type tiller of vertical shaft design has the following construction: An engine(2) is set on the upper part of a longitudinal transmission case(1), the inside of which is equipped with a transmission shaft(11) subject to rotary interlocking by the engine(2), the lower end side of the transmission case(1) is equipped with a tilling shaft(12) interlocking with the transmission shaft(11) and arranged with multiple tilling tines(13, 13, ...) on the outer circumference, and a working implement frame(15) mounted on the transmission case(1) is mounted with a ridger(18) and equipped with a handle frame(16) turning rearwardly upward of the machine body. In this tiller, the engine(2) is set in such a manner that its cylinder part(2a) is deviated in front of the vertical axis of the transmission shaft(11) and the tilling shaft(12) is set in a rearwardly deviated manner relative to the vertical axis.
