[Class 135.] The invention comprises means, for opening a fuel jettisoning valve for aircraft, operable by stored power and controlled from a distance, and also similar means operable by fluid pressure governed by electrical remote-control means. The fuel jettisoning valve b, Fig. 1, slides in a bracket c and by means of a rod b<1>, Fig. 3, is connected to a crank b<2> on the shaft of which are two pinions meshing with racks d, e integral with power pistons d<1>, e<1> respectively. Oil under pressure from a bottle g<4> subject on its free surface to the pressure of compressed air in a cylinder j is admitted to one of the power cylinders d<2>, e<2> by means of pipes g<2>, g<3> controlled by valves (not shown) whose stems g<5>, g<6> are operatively connected to solenoids g<7>, g<8> under the control of switches h<1>, h<2> and a master switch i by which the accumulator i<1> can be cut out. The pipes g<2>, g<3> are respectively connected to inlets g, g<1> in a valve block f forming an extension of the bracket c. Pressure oil admitted at g passes through a port #<2>, Fig. 6, into the cylinder d<2> to operate the piston d<1> which closes the valve b, and simultaneously acts on a piston f<1> connected to a spring-pressed exhaust valve f<3> so that pressure oil in the cylinder e<2> may escape into the fuel tank by the port f<5>. The inlet g<1> supplying the valve-opening cylinder e<2> similarly connects with a piston operating the exhaust valve for the cylinder d<2>. A spring arm (not shown) on the end of the crankshaft tends to keep the crank in its highest or lowest positions corresponding respectively to the fully open and closed positions of the valve. Small holes d<3>, Fig. 3, in the pistons prevent the operation of the valve b due to leakage through the pipes g<2>, g<3>. Additional switches h3, h' and h<5>, h<6> on the pilot's switchboard h control the jettisoning valves of lateral tanks, and compressed air is supplied to these valves by pipes j<2>, j<3>. Instead of compressed air, the oil pressure of the engine lubricating system or the pressure derived from a hand-operated pump may be used. Alternatively, the crankshaft may be operated by a loaded spring with a release mechanism comprising a solenoid.
