A water powered turbine 6 is housed in a duct 9 which narrows 4 to accelerate the flow and direct it onto the appropriate side of the rotor 6 to cause unidirectional rotation. The turbine 6 may drive a generator, and may be housed in a dam (figures 4 and 5), in a floating unit which may receive flow due to wave action (figure 6 and 7), or in a vertical duct through which flow is deflected (figure 8). The turbine blades may be made from extruded plastic.
