PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing apparatus that allows RAM checks to be made without adversely affecting the time required for start. SOLUTION: The printing apparatus 10 has functions S102, S104 for virtually allocating a plurality of areas to be checked onto all the storage area of a RAM according to the present configuration of the apparatus in such a way as to complete checks without delaying start time (time to complete warm-up), and functions S107, S108 for making RAM checks about one of the areas to be checked during start.
