<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a generator and a method capable of changing or controlling easily a state of polarization in a high frequency electromagnetic wave such as a THz wave. <P>SOLUTION: A high frequency electromagnetic wave generating part 2 is irradiated with the first light pulse 4 and the second light pulse 5 by an excitation light irradiating part 1. The first light pulse 4 and the second light pulse 5 are substantially equal in wavelengths and intensities thereof as lights, and substantially different in polarization directions as the lights. The the first light pulse 4 and the second light pulse 5 are different in irradiation timings toward the high frequency electromagnetic wave generating part 2. The high frequency electromagnetic wave generating part 2 generates the high frequency electromagnetic wave, by the irradiation with the first light pulse 4 and the second light pulse 5. The state of polarization in the generated high frequency electromagnetic wave is changed by changing a difference between the irradiation timings toward the high frequency electromagnetic wave generating part 2, between the first light pulse 4 and the second light pulse 5. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT</p> |
