PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode wire for wire electric discharge machining suitable for fine machining, capable of stably causing discharge with a small discharge gap. SOLUTION: The electrode wire 10, obtained by drawing the wiring material having, for example, a copper plated layer 12 provided on the surface of a steel wire 11, is immersed in a solution wherein resins such as alkyd resin, polystyrene resin or the like having electric resistance larger than that of an electrode wire base metal and being a non-insulation resistant material and organic matter powder such as orange G or the like of conductive particles having electric conductivity larger than the resins, and metal powder such as iron power or the like, are dissolved. A film layer 13, which is a mixture of a non-insulation resistance film portion and the conductive particles having the conductivity larger than the non-isolated resistance film portion, is provided on the top-most surface of the electrode wire 10.
