A gear shift lever arrangement (1) is provided in which undesirable movements of the gear shift lever (3) in response to longitudinal movements of the gearbox are reduced. The shift lever assembly is provided with a reaction rod (49) connected at one end to the gearbox (27) and the other end to a floating link (29). The shift rod (25) is also attached to the floating link. The floating link is arranged to be able to pivot about parallel connection shafts (15, 41) with respect to the gear shift lever, the reaction rod and shift rod. Movement of the reaction rod due to longitudinal movement of the gearbox causes a rotation of the floating link through a similar longitudinal distance. This maintains the shift rod in its position relative to the gearbox. |
