The device has a holder for the fish whereby the fish is inserted lengthwise into a guide of the holder through an insert area (2). The guide is formed by an elongated cage or guide tube (1) which has a slit (3) running in the longitudinal direction so that the fish can be drawn through the guide by the fishing line. The insert area is formed by a funnel-shaped mouth. The killing device such as a blade movable against spring force in the guide across the longitudinal extension of same is mounted in the end area of the guide opposite the funnel-shaped insert area.
