PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To promote downsizing and cost reduction. SOLUTION: Expansion and contraction of an image in the main scanning direction S are performed together with image data correction (total magnification correction in the main scanning direction), and also each laser beam L emitted from each light emitting element 102 is adjusted to a laser beam of an optimum diameter in each area 81 to 88 on a photoreceptor drum 38, so as to uniformalize the laser beam diameter on the photoreceptor drum 38 by selecting a light emitting element 102 to be turned on.
