PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shock absorption type steering column device capable of obtaining shock absorption characteristic at an initial stage of secondary collision even if an adjustment stroke at a longitudinal position of a steering wheel is the maximum or minimum. SOLUTION: When a vehicle during traveling collides with an obstacle, an inner tube 12 intrudes into an outer tube 10 by the fact that a driver secondarily collides to a steering wheel by inertia. At this time, a projection 26 of the outer tube is positioned in a range E of telescopic stroke and is fitted to a first groove 24a of a groove 24 of the inner tube. Therefore, slide resistance is generated between taper surfaces 26a, 26b of the projection 26 of the outer tube and a groove surface of the first groove 24.
