An electric motor-driven kitchen appliance (for example an immersion blender) is described which has an actuating mechanism (11; 21; 31) for adjusting the rotational speed of the motor of the kitchen appliance and for switching the kitchen appliance on and off. The kitchen appliance also has a safety device (12; 22; 32) for protecting against unintended activation of the motor.
