PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high-precision self-running function without an influence on the self-running function caused by dust capacity in a vacuum cleaner having a self-running function to follow a user. SOLUTION: The vacuum cleaner has an assist function to reduce the operation load when a user moves the body of the vacuum cleaner. The vacuum cleaner is constituted in such a manner that a microcomputer (a following detection means) 20 to determine the start of following after the user changes the detecting sensitivity according to the output of current detecting means (a condition detecting means) 21 to detect the dust capacity or the like. Because of this, running motion for following can be stabilized, the precision of the assist function can be improved and the self-running function without an influence by the dust capacity can be achieved irrespective of the amount of dust accumulated, or the like.
