PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce resistance by increasing the electrode density of an electric double layer capacitor by making an electrode for the electric double layer capacitor excellent in degassing property. SOLUTION: An electrode material for the electric double layer capacitor is formed into a paste form by kneading after adding 1.0-30.0 wt.% of carbon nano-fibers to a binder including activated carbon and styrene-butadiene rubber. The electrode material is applied to a collector and dried after heating it. The heating temperature of the electrode material is 160-200°C. The electrode material includes carbon black, alternatively, natural graphite or artificial graphite with a particle diameter of≤1μm. The carbon black is acetylene black or the like.
