The combination of a device and a battery for providing energy to the device, the combination comprising at least one fluid consuming electrochemical cell and a fluid regulating system capable of regulating the flow of fluid into the cell, wherein the fluid regulating system comprises: a valve for blocking the flow of a fluid into the cell when the valve is in a closed position and for passing the fluid therethrough and into the cell when the valve is in an open position; and an electrical circuit comprising: an actuator for moving the valve from a first position to a second position in response to a flow of current therethrough; a switch for initially closing the circuit when the valve is in the first position; and a pair of electrical contacts that are in contact with each other when the valve is in the first position and are not in contact with each other when the valve is in the second position
