<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multi-optical-axis photoelectric switch and a printing system using the same, for forming a protection area within a printer, in which processing required for setting muting to the protection area is facilitated and a control load can be reduced. <P>SOLUTION: A controller 17 mutes a single-optical-axis photoelectric sensor constituted of a floodlight 13 and a photo-detector 16 positioned in the lowest portion of a paper ejecting part 7, on the basis of a first muting signal from a first operating switch 18a operated during operation in a first step. Furthermore, the controller 17 mutes a single-optical-axis photoelectric sensor constituted of a floodlight 11 and a photo-detector 14 positioned in the highest portion of the paper ejecting part 7, on the basis of a second muting signal from a second operating switch 18b operated during operation in a second step.
