A nonaqueous electrolyte battery according to one embodiment of the present invention is provided with a positive electrode, a negative electrode and a nonaqueous electrolyte. The positive electrode contains a positive electrode active material that is selected from among manganese-containing composite oxides. The manganese-containing composite oxides have a spinel crystal structure and are represented by general formula Li1-aMn2-xMxO4. In the general formula, M represents at least one element selected from the group consisting of Mg, Ti, Cr, Fe, Co, Zn, Al and Ga; the subscript a is within the range of from -1 to 1 (inclusive); and the subscript x is within the range of from 0.22 to 0.7 (inclusive). The negative electrode contains a negative electrode active material that is selected from among titanium oxides and titanium-containing composite oxides. The ratio of the capacity per unit area of the positive electrode (p) to the capacity per unit area of the negative electrode (n), namely p/n is within the range of from 0.8 to 1 (inclusive).
