PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a garbage treating machine capable of stably detecting the time to clean a filter. SOLUTION: This garbage treating machine is provided with base material state detecting means (temperature sensors 25, 26, 27) for detecting the moisture content of a biological base material and a control means (a microcomputer 34) for controlling an agitating means 15 and a ventilating means (a fan 21) on the basis of the values (Tg, Ts, Tk) detected by the base material state detecting means. Judgement values (Tα, Tβ, X, Y) for judging whether the moisture content of the biological base material is good or bad are preset. When the control means judges that the moisture content of the biological base material is low on the basis of the values detected by the base material state detecting means and the judgement values at the least, the operating time of the ventilating means under such a condition is measured. When the cumulative time of the measured operating time reaches the preset time, the control means judges that the filter 22A is clogged. Otherwise, a light receiving means 38 for receiving light is arranged in the vicinity of the filter 22A and another control means is arranged for judging that the filter 22A is clogged on the basis of the value detected by the light receiving means 38.
