PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope apparatus, controlled to keep good operating condition, and informing an operator of abnormality on detecting the abnormality having the possibility of causing a failure. SOLUTION: In this endoscope apparatus, the quantity of light and wavelength of the actually radiated excited light and the temperature of a short-wavelength light source are measured (Steps S202, S206), and it is determined whether or not the respective measured values are within the allowable range, that is, the presence/absence of abnormality (Steps, S203, S205, S207). When the abnormality is detected, a warning message is displayed to inform the operator of the abnormality (Step S208), and when one of the measured values exceeds the allowable range over a long period of time or exceeds the wider allowable range, the short-wavelength light source is stopped (Step S210).
