PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source device that can adjust the luminance distribution of a displayed image by considering the brightness of surrounding environment (environment light) regardless of the contents of the displayed image. SOLUTION: An external light sensor 16 receives external light (environment light Ls) surrounding the device. A backlight control unit 12 controls each of the light emission amounts of partially lighting units 4 in a light source unit 10 in accordance with the luminous energy of the received environment light Ls. Moreover, the light emission amounts of each of the partially lighting sections 4 may be controlled by considering the luminance information on an image included in RGB signals supplied from an RGB processing unit 60 in addition to the luminous energy of the environment light Ls.
