DOWNBURST DETECTION SYSTEM AND METHOD USING THE RADAR RADIAL VELOCITY

Provided are a system and a method for detecting a downburst using a radar radial velocity. According to the present invention, the system is able to detect a downburst by detecting upper convergence which concurrently occurs with lower divergence, when the downburst is created, by using a radar elevation angle PPI radial velocity and reflectance data. Accordingly, a downburst detection accuracy rate of the present invention may be substantially higher than a downburst detection accuracy rate detected by only considering a lower divergence pattern.
