The present invention relates to a device and a method to measure the speed of a moving object, capable of accurately measuring the speed of various objects such as a golf ball. According to the present invention, the speed measuring device includes a camera; an optical sensor array; first and second light sources; and a control system. The camera obtains image information of an object, placed on a surface thereof. The optical sensor array is installed on the surface in an orthogonal direction to a direction of the moving object. The first and second light sources are installed in an upper part of the optical sensor array to radiate a light beam for forming the shadow of the moving object. The control system controls the flickering of the first and second light sources, receives shadow information of the object, sensed by the optical sensor array when the object moves in the upper part of the optical sensor array, and calculates the speed of the object by processing the shadow information and image information, transmitted from the camera. Moreover, the control system is formed to make the first and second light sources flicker to prevent the first and second light sources from being turned on at the same time. According to the present invention, the speed of the moving object can be measured at a relatively low cost by using one camera, different two light sources, flickering not to be overlapped, and one optical sensor array. |
