PURPOSE: A method for controlling speed reduction section of VCR tape is provided to be capable of setting a speed reduction section of VCR tape and reduce operation time of fast forward/rewind(FF/REW) mode. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises the steps of: inputting a pulse generated according to hub rotation of a S reel and a T reel of a VCR tape, respectively, discriminating type of the VCR tape based on a ratio of the number of the pulse, computing a ending point of the VCR tape based on the ratio of the number of the pulse and the type of the VCR tape, setting previous point to the ending point of the VCR tape as a speed reduction section. the ending point of the VCR tape is computed by {(area of the hub)/{(area of the S reel + area of the T reel)}-area of the hub}.
