A method for generating an electronic journal by means of an electronic journal-generating apparatus (50) incorporating a reader device (52) is provided, whereby the steps of receiving transaction data corresponding to transactions to be performed from a transaction data transfer unit (51), storing the received transaction data in a first reader memory unit (104) of the reader device (52), compressing the transaction data in the first reader memory unit (104) of the reader device (52), storing the compressed transaction data, in the first reader memory unit (104), encrypting the compressed transaction data, transferring the compressed and encrypted transaction data from the first reader memory unit (104) to a second reader memory unit (106) of the reader device (52), and transferring the compressed and encrypted transmission data from the second reader memory unit (106) of the reader device (52) to a module device (56) connected to the journal-generating apparatus (50) are carried out.
