The cathode material for a lithium secondary battery comprises: a cathode active material, which is a lithium-transition metal oxide, and a lithium phosphate layer coated on a surface of the cathode active material.

1. A cathode material comprising particles, wherein one of the particles comprises:
a core comprising Li-containing cathode active material; and a coating layer formed on surfaces of the core, wherein the coating layer consists essentially of Li3PO4 and at least one Li-containing compound selected from the group consisting of Li2O, LiOH, Li2Co3 and Li2C.
