PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface coated cutting tool which exhibits superior chipping resistance and wear resistance in high load cutting work.SOLUTION: The surface-coated cutting tool comprised of an under layer and an upper layer is provided. The under layer is composed of a composite nitride layer of Al and V of a hexagonal crystal structure having an average composition which satisfies 0.70≤x≤0.95 (therein, x is atom ratio) when expressed by a compositional formula:(AlV)N, further in the under layer, preferably, respective diffraction peak intensities h(110), h(100) of (110) plane and (100) plane satisfy the relation of 0.2≤h(110)/h(100)≤0.9. The upper layer is composed of a composite nitride layer of Al and M of a cubic crystal structure having an average composition which satisfies 0.45≤y<0.70 when expressed by a compositional formula:(AlM)N, (y is atom ratio and M is one kind or two kinds or more selected from among elements of 4a, 5a and 6a groups in a periodic table, Si and B).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
