PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a terahertz wave generator that can generate a terahertz wave having wider modulation width and stably intensity-modulated.SOLUTION: A terahertz wave generator 100 generating a terahertz wave has: a polarization control part 5 controlling the polarization state of light from a light source; and a waveguide 201 including a nonlinear optical crystal 6 generating a terahertz wave 26 by receiving light 10 from the polarization control part. The polarization control part controls an electric field intensity of the light entering the nonlinear optical crystal in a Z-axis direction of the nonlinear optical crystal.
