In a tunnelling machine (1) comprising a basic frame (2) having a chassis (3), at least two roller-shaped tool carriers (7, 8) are mounted pivotably about a common horizontal pivot axis (17) and each bear a plurality of rolling cutting tools (9) and can be driven to perform a movement (37) pivoting to and fro with the aid of a driving device, wherein the circumference of the tool carriers (7, 8) in each case bears a plurality of rolling cutting tools (9) distributed around a partial circumferential region (α), and wherein the driving device interacts with the tool carriers (7, 8) in such a manner that every two of the at least two tool carriers (7, 8) are pivoted in opposite directions during the movement pivoting to and fro with respect to one another, wherein the cutting tools (9) of one of the tool carriers (7) pivoted in opposite directions are distributed around a partial circumferential region (α) which, at least at the reversal point of the pivoting movement, is offset in the circumferential direction with respect to the partial circumferential region (α) around which the cutting tools of the other of the tool carriers (8) pivoted in opposite directions are distributed.
