PREPARATION METHOD OF ALUMINA-SPINEL/ALUMINIUM COMPOSITE

PURPOSE: A preparation method of an alumina-spinel/aluminum composite by reacting a silica preform with fused aluminum alloy at 800-1,000°C is provided which can produce a homogeneous composite having high strength at a relatively low cost. CONSTITUTION: A silica preform having a porosity of below 20% is manufactured by sintering a fused silica having a mean particle diameter of below 10 micrometer at 1,400°C for 2 hr. And then the silica preform is dipped in a fused aluminum solution containing 1.2-2.8 weight % of magnesium and reacting at 800-1,000°C to give the title compound. The process makes use of metal aluminum containing magnesium as impurities instead of high-purity metal aluminum for the substitution reaction to reduce the cost of production.
