PURPOSE: A catalyst is provided which has a narrow particle distribution and improves stereo regularity of the polymer. CONSTITUTION: 1 Mole of magnesium halide compound and less than 0.25 mole of III-A group compound such as aluminum halide are dissolved in a mixed solvent of C2- C15 ring-ether, C1- C20 alcohol and organosilane to give magnesium compound solution. Solid particles are precipitated by a reaction of the solution and transition metal compound, silicon compound, tin compound and their compound. The precipitated particles is reacted with a titanium compound and an electron donor to give the catalyst. Thus, 75 ml of 2-ethyl-1-hexanol is added in 15 g MgCl2 and 150 ml of n-decane, reacted at 120°C for 2 hours, followed by addition of 6 ml di-isobutylphthalate. Obtained solution and 30 ml of TiCl4 are reacted at 90°C for 1 hour to give a solid component. The solid particles is heated to 80°C in 150 ml of heptane and 120 ml of TiCl4, followed by addition of 5.61 ml of di-isophthalate at 100°C for 2 hours to give the catalyst.
