PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method are provided which enable reception of television signal in a portable telephone. CONSTITUTION: A controller(150) checks whether a key selecting television reception mode is inputted via a key input unit(151). If the key is inputted, the controller controls a microprocessor(126) of a television receiver package(100) via an interface unit(127) and performs television receiving operation. Further, the controller checks whether a key terminating television reception mode is inputted. If the key is inputted, the controller interrupts the television reception mode and executes call function of the portable telephone. Thereby, it is possible for a user of the portable telephone to utilize television reception function as well as its inherent communication function.
