An ink jet recording apparatus with a high-resolution and high-quality printout produced by satisfying X>(K1+K2) and by setting a value obtained by an equation {(D/V2)-D/V1)}xVS to more than (K1+K2)/2 and less than X-(K1+K2)/2, where D (m) is a distance between a nozzle and a recording medium, V1 (m/s) is a velocity of a main droplet ejected toward the recording medium, V2 (m/s) is a velocity of a satellite droplet ejected toward the recording medium, L is a center-to-center distance between adjacent dots formed by two main droplets, K1 is a diameter of a dot formed by the main droplet, and K2 is a diameter of a dot formed by the satellite droplet.
